Just read Rajalakshmi Raji’ s post on interaction with actors. It takes me back in time. Year 1980 or 81.
My husband’s cousin was getting married . The bride was the daughter of Kannada director Bhagwan . One of the Durai- Bhagwan duo.
The wedding was at Woodlands. We as family were given a cottage.
We were happily surprised to see the reigning Kannada idol Rajkumar enter even very early in the morning. . No airs no banda. One of the family. In between for smaller functions he even arranged chairs in a circle.
When the chairs were arranged to his satisfaction who should enter ! Our own Rajnikanth. Yes just 5 years in the industry and yet very well known. My husband sat next to him throughout. I don’t know what they spoke about.
Then entered Lakshmi . Slim and beautiful.
Evening was Ilayaraja ‘s program for the reception. We lost count of the luminaries. My mother was complaining that she could not get a second helping of icecream . What to say, I did not get dinner itself. Gatecrashers ,in spite of tight security.
Another encounter , hilarious now at hindsight.
Our BOM branch had just opened at Panagal Park . One of the first customers was Kannadasan . Some how our manager wrangled an invitation from him for seeing a cinema shooting at one of the studios in Kodambakkam.
Saturday, after the half day of office we are there at the studio, We are ushered in. Just one sentence is repeated a hundred times. I don’t remember the actors. Then in comes Nadigar Thilakam Sivaji Ganesan from another floor. It is for him we have been waiting.
We are introduced to him. He asks scheduled bank aa? Casting a gloom on us newbies who are proud we are serving in a PSB. Undaunted we give him an opening form .
And then like a Sundal viniyogam we gave all present there , light boys , clap boys and all each an opening form. Sure to come in useful next day when they buy groundnuts.
No. Nothing came of that visit.
